Now that July has finally here, less than a month remains till the much-awaited debut of Deadpool & Wolverine. Hugh Jackman's Wolverine is returning to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus, having previously seemed to be retiring from the role with director James Mangold's Logan. This time, the character is embarking on a very violent, time-traveling odyssey. Naturally, Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, is there to join in on the fun.
Don't worry, however, if this collaboration isn't enough to convince you to see the movie. Marvel Studios is putting in maximum effort to make the Deadpool trilogy's third movie a cinematic event that is not to be missed. It seems that Deadpool & Wolverine will be really insane. Not only have the two main mutants' Multiverse incarnations been widely hinted at, but so have cameos from other prominent Marvel characters. After making his last appearance in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, Pyro has returned, and the main adversary of the movie has been identified as Cassandra Nova. The verified list doesn't end there, however.
Fans saw Sabretooth make a reappearance in , a recent teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine, with Tyler Mane reprising his role as the character. He doesn't seem to have aged since playing the part in 20th Century Fox's X-Men from 2000. He also doesn't seem to have forgotten any of the battle scenes he had in that movie with Wolverine. In the first, he runs away, while in the second, Cyclops' optic blast causes him to be abruptly pushed off the Statue of Liberty.
The trailer closes with him and Logan set to square off, completing a rematch that fans have been waiting for more than 20 years. Actually, however, a third encounter between Jackman's Wolverine and Mane's Sabretooth has already occurred in a video game that many seem to have forgotten.
The third match between Wolverine and Sabretooth appeared in X-Men: The Official Game (2006)
.X-Men: The Last Stand had a video game tie-in, as was customary in the 2000s. With a fitting title, "X-Men: The Official Game," this game aims to fill the narrative void between "X2: X-Men United" and The Last Stand" . You will take on the roles of Nightcrawler, Iceman, and Wolverine throughout the game. Their levels contribute to a broader story about the devastation caused by William Stryker's Sentinel program after his death in X2. Each playable character is given a more personal objective in order to add a little more intrigue to the plot.Logan looks for the answers to his past riddles as Nightcrawler looks to visions of Jason Stryker for inner calm and Iceman strives to establish his footing as an X-Man. By doing this, he confronts Lady Deathstrike and Sabretooth, two of his former foes. But in the Wolverine campaign, you battle Sabretooth twice as opposed to one with Deathstrike. A fake rematch takes place in the Statue of Liberty's Danger Room first, followed by an actual battle and their official Rematch between X-Men on the Master Mold. After losing the third time, Sabretooth is left to wallow in pain as Wolverine walks away after he falls from a tremendous height and is stabbed by a piece of rebar.
Is X-Men: The Official Game indeed canonical? For , Jackman and Mane both return to their respective X-Men roles.Deadpool & Wolverine, losing to X-Men: The Official Game reacted to the blow by about two decades. However, is X-Men: The Official Game genuinely regarded as canon by the Fox X-Men series? That's how it seems, for sure. It goes to great lengths to establish a link between the second and third X-Men movies, explaining Nightcrawler's absence in The Last Stand and presenting ideas like the Danger Room before they were adapted for the big screen. Numerous actors from the movies are also included, including ones whose roles aren't playable.
In all honesty, the game maintains continuity better than the X-Men movies that came after it. Fox has a reputation for moving quickly and loosely after The Last Stand. Character ages vary from movie to movie, events don't usually follow chronological order, and recasts and redesigns are common. This technique also affects Sabretooth, who in X-Men Origins: Wolverine is revealed to be Wolverine's brother and stars Liev Schreiber in lieu of Mane.
When the movie opens on July 26, we'll have to wait and see whether Deadpool & Wolverine makes any reference to the X-Men: The Official Game or the conflict between Wolverine and Sabretooth in the Master Mold.
