The retro-themed game Old School Rally, developed by Astrolabe Games and Frozen Lake Games, has been revealed will be available for early access on July 19, 2024.
I'm not sure where Old School Rally gets its style inspiration from, other than "the '90s," if you were to ask. That sounds like Top Gear Rally, except with looping tracks instead of straight ones. When I think of classic rally games, I usually think of Sega Rally Championship, but this one doesn't look anything like that.
Rather, Old School Rally seems to be mostly "old school" in terms of aesthetics, which it accomplishes rather well. I actually was drawn to it since I love the PS1 appearance with its chunky polygons and unfiltered textures. Apart from that, it seems to be a competent racing game.Many features have already been added to the Early Access edition, such as support for racing wheels and time trial ghosts. Additionally, Frozen Lake has improved and adjusted a few things in response to input from a recent demo.The Early Access term should not exceed a year, according to the developer. "Robust experience with numerous cars and tracks to enjoy and various modes including Rally mode and Time Trial mode," is how they describe it at launch. Over time, new vehicles and courses will be added.On July 19, 2024, for PC, Old School Rally will be released on Steam Early Access.
