With Asuka R#’s Guilty Gear Strive Starter Guide, someone is taking the piss.

Eternally bound

With the release of “That Man” Asuka R#, whose new Starter Guide reveals an arcane nightmare, someone at Arc System Works may actually be taking this piss. I mean, Guilty Gear has always been known for its complex and powerful characters, especially when compared to many other fighting games.

With an ancient book of spells that offer a variety of offensive and defensive abilities and the ability to keep the opponent trapped in a state of near-absolute terror while they wait for the next screen-filling mythic brawl, the founder of peace is definitely not living up to his reputation.

Where the hell do you even begin?

The majority of Asuka R#'s attacks are based on mana, which also serves as fuel for a variety of spells that may be "bookmarked" and subsequently discharged. Furthermore, Mana protects Asuka R#'s health; in its absence, he takes more damage. Certain strikes and special Restore Mana specials may both be used to replenish mana.

Furthermore, Mana is released by a number of "Bookmarked" assaults, which are effectively a wide range of unique spells that are saved for use at a later time. Spells that have been bookmarked may be canceled into each other or have their own attributes altered by changing the direction or pressing a button while they are being cast.

We haven't even begun to touch the surface. In order to provide Asuka a fresh selection of spells throughout a combat, her many spells are compiled into "Test Cases." Imagine it as changing out a character's whole special set, say, via a stance. The only differences are that there are many different stances, and each stance has unique cancelation qualities, EX versions, and the ability to apply random boosts. Additionally, they must all be controlled by a finite resource.

In other words, Asuka R# has many completely distinct movesets that can be swapped out at will. Each moveset also has its own specials that can be Bookmarked for easy activation or cancellation. This is a synopsis that actually isn't a summary. Every Bookmarked Spell in every Test Case may also be enhanced in other ways, such as lowering the Mana cost, increasing the amount of hits, setting new spells to bookmark automatically as they activate, or using any other technique.

except the Mana mechanism. Asuka may also cast a magical staff on the screen, which keeps all of his projectiles—including Supers—floating in the player's orbit by creating a vacuum. And here's a surprise: Moreover, he can teleport. Since he can, of course. Asuka R# is ultimately one of the most intricate characters in fighting game history, posing a real knowledge challenge to both the player and the opposition. He will be a disorganized jumble of annoying missiles in inexperienced hands. In capable hands, he may be invincible.

Asuka R# is part of the Season 2 pass and can be purchased right now in Guilty Gear Strive.
