The publisher is altering its long-term strategies
.Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast seem to be reevaluating their ambitions for the digital future. According to reports, Wizards of the Coast has halted work on a number of video games while it tries to alter its long-term goals.
Wizards of the Coast is said to have canceled at least five video games, according to a recent Bloomberg story. According to a representative for Bloomberg, Wizards is "committed" to video gaming. To "focus on games which are strategically aligned with developing [Wizards'] existing brands" or that have potential for growing or engaging their audience in novel ways, it has also made adjustments to its long-term portfolio.
Less than fifteen employees will lose their jobs as a result of the adjustments, but a Wizards spokeswoman told Bloomberg that those employees will have the opportunity to look for other opportunities inside the organization. IGN reports that the development may have an impact on the companies Hidden Path Entertainment and OtherSide Entertainment.
Undiscovered territories
Although Wizards of the Coast has been present in the digital space for some time, in recent years, the company has increased its presence. Notably, the business enlisted the help of Larian, a developer of Divinity, to pick up the Baldur's Gate series and begin development on Baldur's Gate 3..The RPG is scheduled to launch its 1.0 version later this year, however it is presently available in Early Access.
