1980s games slated for Switch and PC rerelease
Developer with a retro vibe A crowdfunding drive is being planned by Sunsoft in an attempt to bring three of its Japan-only Famicom titles to contemporary platforms. From July 14 until August 31, the campaign will formally debut on the Japanese crowdfunding site Campfire.
The trio of games slated for reissue includes the Edo-set platformer .Gojuusan-tsugi Kanshaku Tamanage Kantarou no Toukaidou (1986), fantasy adventure with side-scrolling In 1986, there was The Wing of Madoola , and in 1988, there was the lighthearted text adventure Ripple Island . Since none of the games left Japan, they have all fallen into oblivion; Sunsoft wants to bring them back to life.
If the Campfire campaign is a success, the three games will be released for the Nintendo Switch and PC. Furthermore, the publisher hopes to distribute the titles on actual gold Famicom cartridges. Although many of the studio's games were granted this distinction in the past, gold-tinted cartridges were an ambition that the company never fulfilled. Back then, Sunsoft was one of the few businesses authorized to distribute its games on specially branded cartridges (see picture above). Perhaps, even forty years later, Sunsoft will be able to fulfill its glamorous ambition.
The titles' localizations were not verified and don't appear plausible, but we'll keep you updated if anything changes.
