During yesterday's IGN Live Preshow, XSEED Games revealed some new information. The Big Catch is a "movement-focused 3D platformer inspired by titles from the 5th and 6th generation of consoles," and the publisher revealed intentions to bring it to PC sometime in 2025.
The Big Catch , created by Filet Group, was first released as a 2022 Kickstarter project. At a total cost of CA$241,747 (about US$175,465), 4,440 supporters contributed to the crowdfunding effort, which has since been actively developing. Now, as part of the IGN Summer of Gaming event, you can play a demo of The Big Catch: Tacklebox on Steam in addition to seeing the clip below.
The Grand Seize It seems to be a basic 3D platformer, similar to the concept of Penny's Big Breakaway, but with some pretty unusual and entertaining-looking movement. Caster is the acrobatic fisherman in the middle of it all. Chef Leurre, his employer, has given him the mission of rescuing The Big Catch restaurant. So he's out and running, jumping, wall-running, and grinding in search of items to make the ideal meal that would draw in consumers. In keeping with the idea, Caster's primary tool is a fishing rod. With his ability to cast, hook, and reel in items, he has an abundance of options for engaging with the outside world. Although Caster seems to be just here to catch fish at first glance, the storyline synopsis hints at "a dark past, a sinister plot, and ominous otherworldly entities."The single chapter Tacklebox demo serves as an introduction to the main game. With skillful platforming, surfing, and fishing, players take on Caster's adversary and coworker Tackle in his last days of training. Please think that as soon as I type this phrase, I'll take up my fishing pole and go to work.
