Try out this cunning DnD Warlock Pact of the Chain construct.

Magic exists in friendship!

One of the most flexible Dungeons & Dragons classes is the warlock, with a level 1 patron and a level 3 subclass that includes the crucial Pact. The character of your warlock is greatly influenced by your patron choice, but your choice of Pact is what really makes this complex and rewarding class work.

I can heartily endorse this Pact of the Chain construct, which I've been using in my own game. Each of the Pacts has a unique playstyle that makes them appealing, albeit the Pact of the Chain may not appear very impressive at first since wizards are already acquainted with the spell. The warlock familiar, on the other hand, is a whole other beast. In a literal sense.

With the Pact of the Chain, a warlock can perform the find familiar spell just like any other wizard. However, unlike most find familiar spells, which can only call forth a magically enhanced version of a fairly commonplace creature, Pact of the Chain warlocks are able to select their familiar from a variety of creatures, including sprites, imps, pseudodragons, and quasits. For reasons I'll discuss shortly, the pseudodragon is my particular favorite.

Every familiar has free will and the ability to move and act (for example, by using the Help action to give the caster an advantage when attacking that target).Unlike other familiars, Pact of the Chain familiars may be ordered to attack by their paired warlock; however, in order to grant their familiar an attack on the warlock's initiative, the paired warlock must forfeit their own action. Fortunately, Tasha's Cauldron of Everything's Investment of the Chain Master incantation enables you to use your extra action to launch a familiar attack.

The Investment of the Chain Master, which makes using your spell save DC the default option anytime your familiar compels an adversary to make a saving throw, is another crucial component of this construct. When compared to the other familiars, the pseudodragon excels in this situation since its sting attack does relatively little damage but requires the target to use the warlock's spell save DC to make a Constitutional saving throw. The victim is poisoned for one hour, making all attack rolls and ability checks more difficult. If they miss the saving throw by five or more, they instantly lose consciousness.

In practical terms, this means that during the warlock's turn, the familiar may travel up to five feet close to an opponent and use the aid action to offer the warlock an advantage when they attack the target again. The warlock may direct the pseudodragon to strike the target by using their bonus action. After that, the warlock may use their own normal action to cast another spell or launch an attack on the target that benefits from the assistance action.

This has some possible drawbacks: your fighting ability is considerably reduced if the pseudodragon is removed, as did happen to my warlock's familiar during an early adventure, but your spells are always available. Fortunately, warlocks with Pact of the Chain may use their response to apply their well-known resistance to the damage they have just taken. Take care of your familiar, and it will take care of you!

Since sorcerers utilize Charisma for their spell attacks, you may want to think about choosing the Magic Initiate feat for the Sorcerer in order to get the Shocking Grasp cantrip. Additionally, you can employ any familiar to deliver touch-range spell attacks on your turn using your attack modifier instead of theirs.

Warlock Chain of the Pact Construction

Features: High Charisma: this is essential for any Warlock; assign your highest attribute score to Charisma and, if possible, add a species bonus. Other qualities are mostly up to you.Donor: This construct works somewhat better with patrons that provide access to touch spells like Cure Wounds from the Celestial, or spell assaults like Scorching Ray from the Fiend or the Genie, or the Tentacle of the Deep from the Fathomless.Level 2 Invocations: Agonizing Blast and another invocation, which you will swap out for Investment of the Chain Master at level three.Level 3 Pact: Chain Pact with the Pseudocardon.Spellings: The true standout in this situation is Eldritch Blast, a ranged spell attack that you may combine with your familiar's assistance action. As part of your other cantrip, Mind Sliver increases the target's susceptibility to your pseudodragon's poison by deducting 1d4 from their subsequent saving throw.
