A totally different sort of fan film was made by a small group of Helldivers 2 enthusiasts and will be released on July 4, 2024. While the movie concentrates on the potent but somber concept of remembering, the game is all about promoting managed democracy and freedom—values that everyone on this day around the globe might get on board with.
In less than four minutes, the fan film Memorial will transport each player of Helldivers 2 back to the moment when we received the fatal Major Order to travel to Malevelon Creek and take it from the Automatons. We lost a great deal of Helldivers in the process since we were inexperienced and unprepared for the sheer misery of those jungles. That's the origin of the term "remember the creek," and it's the main theme of this film.
Keep the brook in mind
Five years after our experience at Malevelon Creek, Memorial depicts a lone Helldiver. The earth has changed into a desert; the verdant forests that formerly made combat so challenging are no longer there. After carefully positioning a few boulders and attaching a set of dog tags on them, they salute like Helldivers and get back into their Superdestroyer.
More often than not, players lean toward the path. Helldivers 2 promotes fierce nationalism across its cosmos. Such a sensitive moment chosen and shown from this universe is uncommon. The one alternative that we've seen is Spill it All, which focuses on the sixty seconds that a Helldiver spends within its Hellpod prior to being sent into the center of combat.
Memorial might be thought of as the spiritual descendant of Spill it All. We've seen the moments that several Helldivers went through just before reaching for a weapon and scuttling through Malevelon Creek's dense undergrowth in the seconds before they were felled by laser swords or explosive fire. As we've seen, Helldivers honor the people who lost their lives on the stream to help us drive the Automtaons out and preserve Super Earth's independence.
Memorial is a break in the storm for Helldivers 2 and was made by streamer weak.links. There was a lot of discussion regarding problems, declining player counts, and a lack of fresh content because of the impending summer vacation at the time of its debut. I'm glad the movie was made available since it brings back my favorite gaming memories and the reasons I'll keep playing it.
