Exciting in person AND virtually
The release date for the first-person shooter spin-off of Hypnospace Outlaw has been revealed by No More Robots. On June 1st, Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer will be released.
The game Hypnospace Outlaw was very unique. Even though it was set in a fantastical world, it preserved Web 1.0 in a loving manner. To provide a highly realistic portrayal of the internet during its awkward adolescence, the creators devised a variety of fictitious characters. I know this because I saw Web 1.0 firsthand. It was really accurate.Zane Lofton, an edgy adolescent, was one of the characters. Zane, like a lot of youngsters, was the king of cool in his own little fantasy world. An further investigation of that character is found in Slayers X , an FPS he and his companion created. It seems to take us back in time to 1998, when teens were fiddling with modification tools for Doom and Duke Nukem 3D.
I tried the same thing, but I wasn't a teenager yet, so all I got out of it was a few badly textured rooms.
Rocks Vanes
Although several shooters have attempted, with differing degrees of success, to recreate the 1990s, Slayers X may be the first to attempt presenting itself through the eyes of a character who was alive at the time. As such, it's jam-packed with all the elements that gritty teens found appealing in the past: feces, real-world settings, and bad villains. It's corny and overdone, and that's just the way it should be.
I love everything about jank-pop, thus \i>Slayers X is a perfect fit for me. A little part of my mind is still occupied with Hypnospace Outlaw, and I've been eager to see new developments from the idea. The spin-off was previously mentioned, and I was wondering whether I had missed it. I'm relieved it isn't the case and that I can feel enthusiastic again.
On June 1, Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer will be available for PC. The same day, it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass.
