According to Variety, Sony's President of International Distribution Steven O'Dell formally announced that the Uncharted 2 movie is officially in development during the 2024 CineEurope trade exhibition.
For those who don't know, the original film and its now-official sequel are video game adaptations of the Uncharted series from Sony and Naughty Dog. Mark Wahlberg portrays Nathan Drake's closest buddy Victor Sullivan in the first film, which was released in 2022 and featured Tom Holland as the lead character Nathan Drake.
It is anticipated that both characters will return to their roles. Wahlberg gave an update to Screen Rant earlier this year, so it seems that the actor will be making a comeback. He said that the studio had requested that he begin growing facial hair. The actor also said that the writing for the film is finished.
Wahlberg said that "audiences really loved the first one," and to some extent, that is accurate. Although the film brought in $407 million at the box office, the reviews did not match the film's box office receipts. Right now, Uncharted is rated 45% on Metacritic, 6.3 on IMDb, and 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, the box office result is good enough for Sony to approve a sequel, but it's unclear how well Uncharted 2 will do when it comes out. It is premature to speculate on the film's reception, however, since it is still in the development stage and Uncharted 2 won't be released in theaters for some time without formal confirmation that Tom Holland is making a comeback.
