A stunning new video featuring a combination of live-action sequences and high-fidelity side-scrolling action for the stunning pixel-art hack-and-slash game Mariachi Legends closed up the Latin American Games Showcase.
You may have missed last weekend's Latin American Games Showcase. It's improbable that most audiences will see all twelve of the various showcases over the course of a few days, especially because each showcase focuses on a different area.
However, this particular exhibition was full of artistic creations and creative ideas, which is a description that is equally appropriate for Halberd Studios' Mariachi Legends, the presentation's previous game that was unveiled at the PC Gaming exhibition last year.
The trailer opens to a foggy sunset and features a live-action scene that introduces the main character, Detective Pablo Cruz, as well as the made-up town of Santa Mascota. Detective Cruz is tasked by Lady Death with exploring the Realm of the Dead and locating a mysterious amulet that could undermine her authority over the underworld.
This is no easy undertaking since this domain is protected at all costs by a group of creatures known as the Mariachi Legends. Pablo must put on the formidable clothing La Sombra, which gives him supernatural strength and talents, in order to have any chance against them.
while the game switches to gameplay, Pablo's fluid and fluent motions immediately grab the player's attention. For example, while taking notes, he waves his pen and notebook with a flourish and trots about looking a lot like Soma Cruz from Castlevania. In other words,Despite having the same last name and engaging in running animation, these two characters are strangely unrelated in that they are not fans of the Metroidvania subgenre.
As a branching beat-em-up platformer, Mariachi Legends differs from the studio's previous work, 9 Years of Shadow, which was a fully fledged metroidvania with an emphasis on lavish combo-centric combat and platform navigation techniques like bounding, swinging, and dashing.
Pablo uses two flintlock pistols and a set of sabers in tandem, shooting off point-blank bursts before easily dismembering his opponents in a whirling tornado of death. In addition, he has a number of unique skills, such as a poisonous face-cracker whip that can melt bone and change into a ghostly skull covered in a sickening green flame that can devour opponents whole.
More live-action clips are mixed with gameplay at the conclusion of the teaser, this time to show off the culinary aspect of the game in the kitchen. Pablo can add flavor to his unique powers by sharing the recipes he discovers while traveling.
The shop website for Mariachi Legends lists a 2024 release window and indicates that the game will be available on Steam and the Switch.
