The Base leather Crafting Ingredient for the most recent Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Dawntrail, is Garganatua Hide. More particular, Gargantua Hide is a very valuable resource since it can be crafted by Leatherworkers into Gargantua Leather. How to Obtain A Massive Hide
Similar to the majority of basic crafting materials in FFXIV, Gargantua Hide may be obtained in several ways. The following three methods will earn you Gargantua Hide:
- Farm it by killing Gargantua creatures in Living Memory.
- Trade 3 Bicolor Gemstones acquired from completing Shared FATEs.
- Chance to obtain via Hunting (Level 100) Retainer Ventures.
The best place to harvest Gargantua Hides in FFXIV
Defeating the Level 99 Gargantua monsters in the Living Memory zone's eastern Opal Springs region of Asyle Volcane is the best way to produce Gargantua Hide. As part of the MSQ, you will finally be able to access this zone.
The quickest method to reach the Gargantua Hide farming area, as seen on the map above, is to teleport to the Leynode Pyro Aether Current and then go somewhat southeast to the island's eastern portion. There are a lot of large, reddish-orange Gargantuas out and about. Starting in the coordinates X: 36.8, Y: 18.6, is a decent idea.
It is most reliable to farm the material by killing these Garganatua, since there is a 20%–25% probability of dropping 1–5 Gargantua Hides.
Get Massive Hide with Shared FATEs and Bicolor Gemstones
You do have an alternate option if fighting monsters to harvest resources isn't your thing or if you just would rather run Shared FATEs. Gargantua Hides may be purchased from three different vendors in the Dawntrail expansion for three Bicolor Gemstones each. Shared FATEs can be completed in any of the new Dawntrail zones.

Get Retainer Ventures' Gargantua Hide
Finally, using your Retainers is a rather passive approach to get Gargantua Hide. Your Retainers may engage in Level 100 Hunting Ventures to get some Gargantua Hides if they have reached a high enough level. Your Retainer's Item Level will determine how much they obtain. 5 Gargantua Hides will be returned by your retainer when you reach 670 Item Level. With 15 Gargantua Hides, your Retainer will acquire treble that amount at 715 Item Level.
A Leatherworker may turn your Gargantua Hide into Gargantua Leather if you've collected enough of it. The following supplies are needed to create Gargantua Leather:
- 4 Gargantua Hide
- 1 Acacia Bark
- 8 Earth Crystal
Level 98 is also required for the Leatherworker to be able to access the crafting recipe.
