A week or so ago, Nintendo released a teaser that seemed to be lifted directly from Silent Hill. There were some noisy horror cuts and a figure with a trenchcoat and a paper bag on their head. The phrases "Smiling Man" and Emio, the title of the video, were our only hints.
Today, we got further explanation. It's not a new Eternal Darkness, which is the bad news. It's a new addition to the Famicom Detective Club, which is wonderful news. With two games released on the Famicom Disk System in 1988, the series came to an abrupt end. They were redesigned as for the Switch in 2021.Famicom Detective Club: and : The Missing HeirFor the first time, the games were translated into foreign languages with Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind.
.The next game will be known as .Emio - Happy Man: Famicom Detective Club. As stated in the interview with producer Yoshio Sakamoto announcement The mystery will center on an urban legend that a guy would "offer girls a paper bag with a smile drawn on it in exchange for their life," according to (director of the original games, people remain at Nintendo for a long time). I think this is a horrible deal.
In the 1980s, a wave of mystery visual novel/adventure games flooded home computers and the Famicom, including the Famicom Detective Club titles. They were Nintendo's own spin on a trend rather than revolutionary game changers. Since discovering the Famicom Disk System library, I've been itching to play them, but I haven't yet attempted the remakes. They cost a lot. I intended to examine them, but CJ got there before me (for many reasons), and I never went back.
Given that Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club releases on Switch on August 29, 2024, I suppose I'll have to attempt to fit them into my calendar. A hard copy version will be accessible.
