The much awaited sequel to the chaotic sandbox game, Streets of Rogue 2, has been delayed from its Early Access release date of October 22, 2024 to October 22, 2024, according to Tinybuild and Matt Dabrowski. August 14 was the originally planned release date.
According to the press release, "more time will be needed for Streets of Rogue 2 to sharpen its weapons of destruction." Its specifics don't get much more precise. In fact, the PR seemed like it was eagerly announcing the launch date when I first read it, and I had to read it again to see that it really had an apologetic tone.
When it came released in 2019, the original Streets of Rogue received a 96% "overwhelmingly positive" user review score on Steam. The title of the game need to have been reworked; for years I mistook it for another game, until I realized that the two aren't the same and that I should really play Streets of Rogue. I put it down after that since I'm a busy person and didn't start reading it until today, when I needed more background.Streets of Rogue 2 takes this to a more open world, with the first game functioning somewhat like a progression of miniature immersive sims in which you're dropped on a randomly generated floor and have to complete objectives using only the skills at your disposal and items that can be found in the environment. Farming exists for a purpose. It seems that the open world in the first game is 10,000 times bigger than a level. "Uncompromised" freedom is what it offers. It seems to be what I would envision a 2D Saint's Row game to look like. The new release date for Streets of Rogue 2 on Steam Early Access is set for October 22, 2024.
