July 6, 2023, is when Bitwave Games has announced that Gimmick! Special Edition will be available on PC and console.
The beloved NES title \i>Gimmick! was first published by Sunsoft in Japan in 1992. It was then extremely restricted distribution in PAL areas as Mr. Gimmick in 1993. Not only is the PAL version costly on the Famicom, but it is also one of the most expensive NES cartridges available. It has thus been a long time coming for a modern port.
You get to play as a green, horned blob with the ability to toss stars in \i>Gimmick!. Although it seems simple, you must become proficient in the gameplay, which is significantly impacted by physics. It's a rather challenging game where you have to become quite acquainted with how it moves.
Although I've personally fallen off Gimmick! a few times, I know a lot of players that are devoted to it. The goal of \i>Gimmick! Special Edition is to maintain gameplay while adding a few new improvements. Along with various additional (disableableable) quality-of-life enhancements, there is a speed-run mode. You may also save and resume the game so you don't have to finish it all at once. Beyond that, there's the rewind tool, which is now common to ease through the trickier parts. This may be your opportunity to complete the version if you felt the previous one was too harsh.
July 6, 2023 sees the release of Gimmick! Special Edition for PC, Switch, and PS4. Soon after, the Xbox version will be released. Later this year, physical copies of the titles for the Switch and PS4 will be available in stores.
