A Telltale Series: The Expansetakes up where the last episode left off . The beginning of The Expanse: A Telltale Series Episode 2 was a little chaotic. are a little busy. But because Camina Drummer is now The Artemis' captain, it is more important than ever for us to make the right decisions. By the conclusion of the episode, I really feel like things are progressing, even if the first half of the series is still in progress.Episode 2 of The Expanse: A Telltale Series (PC [Reviewed], Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Xbox OneIn other words, Constructor: Deck NineIn other words, The publisher is TelltalePublication date: August 10, 2023In other words, $39.99 MSRP
A recognizable gaming pattern
Admittedly, Episode 2 and Episode 1 are quite similar. We first board the Artemis and then come upon a field of ship wreckage. After navigating the debris and discovering a few secret objects, we return to the Artemis to conclude the episode. To be clear, in Episode 2, the story advanced. However, given that each of these episodes has only lasted around 1.5 hours, I'm beginning to become a little concerned.I know what you're talking about; this is The Expanse. It makes logical that up until now, humans have only been in the deepest regions of space. That doesn't, however, make the gaming loop enjoyable. The first episode's depiction of space is still breathtaking, but maneuvering the abandoned spacecraft seemed a little too familiar. If we could eventually visit Earth, Mars, or maybe another planet, or even just tour a station, it would be awesome. That would be wonderful to accomplish, even if it's incredibly improbable given the overall plot of The Expanse.A new gameplay aspect appears around halfway throughout the episode, when you have to negotiate the debris and avoid the lasers of hunting drones. While it may not be a game-changing addition, it's encouraging to see Deck Nine attempting to infuse some fresh gameplay elements into a game that emphasizes story.
It seems that decisions matter
Even though it seemed like I made some important decisions in the first episode, I wasn't sure whether they would really matter in the end. In addition, I made the extra effort to do a few "side missions" and get the different supplies my crew had asked for.It was surprising to me that the decisions I made seemed to influence the events of this episode, which is fantastic. It seems that making the additional effort to obtain those extra objects also had an impact. For instance, our physician had asked for a new laser crystal for our surgical instrument aboard the Artemis in Episode 1. I managed to locate it, and in Episode 2, a medical treatment was necessary for someone. I located the laser crystal, which is why I think the process worked. I wonder what would have occurred if I hadn't discovered it.For those who are fans of The Expanse, this is unquestionably Camina Drummer from the program. Cara Gee is amazing, as I said in my observations of Episode 1. I'm overjoyed that they managed to persuade her to perform Drummer's voice again. Throughout this episode, you'll have to make a few decisions, and they definitely felt like Drummer choices. We reunite with our team aboard the Artemis at the conclusion of the episode. The repercussions of Drummer serving as captain are clearly shown to us, and I'm sure this is laying the groundwork for further episodes. When we examine Episode 3 in two weeks, we should have a clear understanding of the course that The Expanse: A Telltale Series is going.[The publisher supplied a retail build of the game for this review. To capture the whole experience, the score will be saved until the last episode.]
